Big Bucks World Hurdle Betting – Beatable?

Big Buck’s has looked untouchable in the long distance hurdle scene but when Grands Crus sprinted away from a quality field to win by ten lengths in the Cleeve Hurdle in January a new challenger had been unveiled. On March 17 the two will collide in a hotly anticipated match-up and we will see whether the new kid on the block can defeat the old stalwart.
Before Grands Crus’ Cleeve rout it had been abundantly clear that nothing in training would beat an on-form Big Buck’s and at 4/6 the bookmakers agreed. However, since David Pipe’s grey burst into the World Hurdle reckoning Victor Chandler has edged the Paul Nicholls-trained dual winner to Evens and put Grands Crus in at 9/4.
For the last two years Big Buck’s has been simply unbeatable after returning to the smaller obstacles and has notched up nine class one contests with consummate ease.
A short odds-on for most of those successes the Stewart Family-owned gelding has just ground his rivals into submission and has never looked like get beaten.
So, can the up-and-coming Grands Crus really put a fly in the ointment and spring a surprise at Prestbury Park in Thursday’s blue riband event. Yes, he was ultra-impressive when annihilating a classy field in the Cleeve and he impressed in his two previous wins this season, but the task of dethroning Big Buck’s is a whole new assignment.
Although, many quarters have felt Big Buck’s has been below par this campaign, he has only beat what has been put in front of him and that’s all you can ask a horse to do. I fully expect when the two contenders line up on March 17 the old guard will blow the newcomer out of the way and notch the hat-trick of World Hurdles.
With Grands Crus establishing himself as a mighty challenger it has helped to lengthen Big Buck’s price and Victor Chandler’s Even money is definitely worth getting on.
