Watch out for Pandorama in Cheltenham Gold Cup
Day Four | Paul Berry | March 8, 2011 at 9:12 am
Not since War Of Attrition bounded up the Cheltenham hill in 2006 has an Irish-trained runner bagged the Cheltenham Gold Cup and this year Pandorama will be looking to add his name to the illustrious line of Emerald Isle winners.
Noel Meade’s eight-year-old is currently best-priced 20/1 with Totesport for Friday’s blue riband event and in such a wide open contest could be the each way value.
He was an extremely smart hurdler and his only defeat came against Irish hurdle star Mikael D’Haguenet. He then made a brilliant transition to the larger obstacles when winning his first three chases. The last victory of that trio was the most impressive when he beat dual Cheltenham Festival winner Weapon’s Amnesty by a short head.

Meade then brought him over for the Hennessy but a mistake early on put pay to his chances and and he was then hampered at the fourth and was pulled up without getting in the race. However, he showed his class next time up when trouncing a decent field in the Lexus Chase.
Meade has been bullish about his raider’s chances and after a terrific gallop alongside some of his stable stars fully expects the horse to be thereabouts. If he can improve from his Lexus success he is sure to be fighting out with the likes of Denman, Kauto Star and last year’s winner Imperial Commander in what looks a pulsating contest.
With the race looking so open and many question marks hanging over several runner including the aforementioned triumvirate you have to look elsewhere on possible each way contenders, and at the juicy 20/1 Pandorama is the one to be with.
